Compost tea - what is it?

Let's get one thing straight right away: compost tea is not something you drink. So what is compost tea then? Well, it's essentially a liquid made by soaking compost in water for a number of days. The liquid is then strained and can be applied to plants. The liquid formed contains bacteria and fungi beneficial to plants and contains far greater numbers of bacteria and fungi as the compost tea brewing conditions are just right for multiplication. Compost tea can thus be a more effective way of getting your compost into your garden as a small amount of compost can treat a much larger area.

How is compost tea used?

Compost tea can be applied to the leaves of non-edible plants to help fight disease and to the roots of other plants as food. It can also be applied to the soil as improver.
